Book of the Month Club, October 2012

The book of the month for October is Life Rage by L.L. Soares.

"Sam Wayne is a psychologist who specializes in anger management. He’s very good at his job. Almost too good. In fact, he considers himself something of a miracle worker.

A mad man is on the loose, ripping people apart with his bare hands. The police have no clues. Those who see him and survive never seem to make out his face. All except for one…

Colleen has led a wasted life, bringing home a new man to her bed every night. Until that night. Witnessing her friend torn to pieces right before her eyes, she sees the murderer’s face clearly. She manages to escape, traumatized by what she’s seen, and keeps running until she falls into the arms of Jeremy Rust. An ex Hollywood playboy, Jeremy now hides out in a secluded beach house with his mysterious roommate, Viv…"

I first discovered L.L. Soares writing in Zippered Flesh: Tales of Body Enhancements Gone Bad! and I for one cannot wait to read a novel from this talented Bram Stoker-nominated writer.

Regretably, I slept through book of month in September (sorry, Jeff!), but I am ready to make my way back into the world of horror fiction and am especially excited to read this title. Loved L.L. Soares' contribution to ZF.

Can't wait to catch up with y'all

Was a real treat to see this. To start the month off - an update. LIFE RAGE is currently available for Kindle, but the paperback version isn't up yet. Should be any day now.

I snagged the Kindle edition.

Will the cover art for the paperback be the same as the digital version?

I'm enjoying getting to know the various players who all appear to be fatally flawed though wonderfully observed and well drawn. Things have just began to get weird and nasty

Just got a box in the mail today. If anyone is in the Worcester, Massachusetts area this weekend going to the Rock and Shock Convention - come on over to the New England Horror Writers (NEHW) table on Saturday and say hello! And get your very own copy of Life Rage.
https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=1&theater

Dammit. I was hoping the photo would show up here. It's a link to my Facebook page, where there's a picture of a box full of LIFE RAGE.

The contest announcement has been postponed until midnight tonight. Why? Because October 12th is Aleister Crowley's birthday and I want to celebrate.

LIFE RAGE CONTEST

Okay, here’s the contest. If you get a copy of LIFE RAGE and pose for a picture holding the book and post it on your Facebook page, your name goes in a raffle. But what if you get it on Kindle? Well, if you read the paperback or the Kindle version and post a review on Amazon, you name goes into the raffle twice. You just have to let me know when you’ve posted the photo or the review.

In one month’s time (November 12, 2012), I’ll pick someone’s name at random, and they will receive signed copies of IN SICKNESS, LIFE RAGE and my upcoming second novel, ROCK N’ ROLL, and maybe a couple of surprises.

So get a copy of LIFE RAGE soon, and let the contest begin.

I got horizontal today and had the great pleasure of reading this to the end.

This novel is like a dark roller coaster ride, it takes a little while to reach the top but then the thrills don't stop. Populated by bizarre and interesting characters who are wonderfully drawn it is a real treat of a novel. I had no idea where this ride would take me and I was thrilled and intrigued from the beginning right up to the devastating end of this wholly original story.

What the hell is wrong with you, Soares! This book is fucked up

This is completely engrossing. I was having trouble putting this down the other night so I could sleep.

I'm guessing this story will have an unexpected conclusion.

I was actually writing a story for Zippered Flesh 2 and half-way through I didn't like what I'd written and I scrapped it. Back to the drawing board. I hate when that happens.

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, L.L.!

Even though we are nearing the end of the month, I am still quite behind. Not even to the halfway point. Got a late start and wrapping up some other things this month, but I am still hooked.

The story is great and kicks off splendidly. The set-up is happening with a good amount of action which I love.

A couple questions:

(1) where did you come up with this story? I think I remembered you saying you were going to write this as a short for ZP and it turned into a novel...? Curious about where the premise came from and how the tale developed.

(2) Can you give any tidbits on the background of the characters? Are any of them based on people you know or perhaps even yourself?

No, the novel has nothing to do with ZP. It was written around the year 2000 or so and has been kicking back and forth between publishers since then, until it finally found a home. Getting a novel published is hard work, especially your first one, and this was no exception.

No characters based on me or anyone I know - as far as I can tell - although I do find that I am getting more angry the older I get, rather than less.

Glad you're digging it. I know it's a big book, and there were some layout issues that delayed the paperback version coming out until a few weeks into October. So I'm not surprised it's quiet here. But I'd love to hear some reactions from people.

Thanks again for the support, Mark. Hope you dig In Sickness.

To wrap things up: Life Rage and In Sickness are out now.
Rock 'N' Roll comes out from Gallows Press sometime in November (I hope)
My story "Seeds" will be in Zippered Flesh 2
And my first "mainstream" novel, HARD, has just been announced, coming from Novello Publishers in May 2013.

Now I'm going to go work on some new stuff.

Good hanging out with you.

Hope everyone had a great Halloween.

They are well drawn characters so I thought maybe they were, even in part, based on real people. Even though there are a number of players to keep up with they are all interesting and it's exciting bouncing from thread to thread.

Even though it's the start of the new month, I will still be wrapping up LIFE RAGE in November as well, so I may pop in with more questions.

Cool. Glad you're enjoying it, Meli. =)

And just an update about the LIFE RAGE CONTEST. It's been extended another month until December.

Here's the details:

LIFE RAGE CONTEST

Okay, here’s the contest. If you get a copy of LIFE RAGE and pose for a picture holding the book and post it on your Facebook page, your name goes in a raffle.

But what if you get it on Kindle? Well, if you read the paper
back or the Kindle version and post a review on Amazon, you name goes into the raffle, too. You just have to let me know when you’ve posted the photo or the review. Message me on my Facebook page or email me at llsoares(at)llsoares.com

On December 12, 2012, I’ll pick someone’s name at random, and they will receive signed copies of IN SICKNESS, LIFE RAGE and my upcoming second novel, ROCK N’ ROLL, and maybe a couple of surprises.

So get your copy of LIFE RAGE soon, and let the contest begin.

Yay! I am doing the happy dance right now. Check your Chonebook messages as there is one for me. Yippee! (one yay wasn't enough)

Please except my apologies for the cost of postage which you will endure. My cup runneth over!

Oh and if you haven't signed them already could you put To Lillian please? The day after my daughter was born I went to a Brian Lumley signing and since then I get all my signed books to her as a legacy if you will.

I can't tell you how exciting this is. Getting a novel published finally is a big deal. To have it make the final ballot for the Stoker just makes it all sweeter.
